University of San Francisco Athletics, in partnership with the university's Office of Alumni Engagement, has announced the formation of an athletic alumni association whose mission will be to engage and connect former students across different sports, generations and geographical areas in an attempt to build and foster an on-going association with USF Athletics.
Â
The Dons Honor Club encourages camaraderie among all former USF student-athletes and will preserve the history and traditions of USF Athletics. Another primary goal of the Dons Honor Club is to connect former student-athletes who are established in their professions with current Dons so they may provide career advice and mentoring opportunities.
Â
All former students who have competed for a minimum of one year in an intercollegiate sport are eligible, as are team managers and spirit squad members who compiled at least three years of service as an undergraduate. Membership will be sponsored by the Athletic Department but all former student-athletes are encouraged to submit their updated contact information on-line at
USFDons.com.
Â
"The legacy our former student-athletes left on the Hilltop lives on through our current group of athletes who excel in the classroom, compete at the highest levels of competition, engage in the community and become leaders in the world," said USF Director of Athletics
Scott Sidwell. "I'm confident the Dons Honor Club will successfully bridge our past with our present and welcome a new group of Dons to the family each and every year."
Â
As a chartered and recognized university support group, the Dons Honor Club's Board of Directors will operate under a charter from the university.
Â
Bill Cartwright '79, a three-time All-American who went on to earn three NBA Championship rings with the Chicago Bulls, will serve as the organization's first president. Former women's basketball great and coach Mary Hile-Nepfel '81 will serve as first vice president while former baseball player Kevin Cronin '80 will serve as second vice president. Associate Athletics Director
Jim Young will serve as executive director.
Â
The Dons Honor Club will also include a group of former student-athletes from a variety of sports to serve on its board of directors. This group will be a driving force to ensure success in various honors programs, alumni events and general engagement.
Â
USF Athletics will provide invitations and news and updates through various communication channels specifically for registered Dons Honor Club members.
Â
Former student-athletes can contribute to the legacy of USF Athletics by becoming and remaining an active member in this organization. Please register on-line at USFDons.com to keep up to date on all activities pertaining to the Dons Honor Club and USF Athletics.
