SAN FRANCSICO – The San Francisco Dons dropped a 4-2 decision to Portland in a rain-delayed match on Friday.

Beginning the evening match on the singles court, the Dons could only muster two points, and with the match victory clinched for the Pilots the doubles point remained unplayed.

"The Pilots go the better of us. It was a rough match with up and down battles that didn't go our way," said USF head coach Pablo Pires de Almeida. "Ryan and Oliver stepped up to win their matches and we could not get another win to push the match to doubles. Paul and Chris had opportunities to win their matches but were not able to close out their sets clean enough."

USF's first point came from the hand of Oliver Poysti, who took down Alex Wallace 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 4 position. Ryan Marker, a sophomore from Rancho Mirage, Calif., earned the comeback win on Court 3 to secure the Dons' second point on the night. Dropping the first set to Portland's Pierre Garcia 6-1, Marker rebounded with second and third set scores of 6-4 to take the match.

The Pilots continue their roll through the schedule sporting an 11-1 record after earning the victory in their first West Coast Conference match of the year. Meanwhile, the Dons drop to 4-11 and seek its first league win as the squad prepares to face Gonzaga on Saturday.

The Dons and the Bulldogs are slated to play at the California Tennis Club at 1 p.m.
