STANFORD, Calif. – The San Francisco beach volleyball squad succumbed to the Cardinal 5-0 at Stanford Sand Volleyball Stadium on a windy Friday afternoon in the South Bay.

Despite the sweep, two sets on two courts were pushed to extra points by the Dons. USF's No. 1 tandem of
Nora Buvarp Lavik and
Emily Reed challenged Stanford's Kathryn Plummer and Jenna Gray. Requiring extra effort in the first frame, Buvarp Lavik and Reed fell 25-21, 21-12.
At Court 3,
Dane Miller and
Carly Lowry dropped their first set to Morgan Hentz and Caitlin Keefe, 21-16. In the second, Miller and Lowry did not go quietly before Hentz and Keefe secured the 22-20 victory. Another close opening-set score came in on Court 4 in the lineup, with
Shannon Levinson and
Kate Ashman falling 21-17, 21-12 to Catherine Raquel and Shannon Richardson.
With the win, the Cardinal improve to 9-4 on the year, while USF still seeks its first win of the spring.
USF closes out its season on the sand next week with three matches, beginning with a date with Santa Clara on Wednesday. The Dons and the Broncos will compete at Los Gatos HS with first serve slated for 3 p.m.
