SAN FRANCISCO - In a five set thriller, the Dons took home a win in game one of the weekend doubleheader. USF beat CSUN (4-3) 3-2 on Friday night in War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
Although it looked as though the Dons were heading towards a sweep after winning the first two sets 25-21, the Matadors battled back to take two sets. The visitors hit a match-high .419 percent in the fourth set, forcing an intense fifth frame. However, CSUN still did not have an answer for the home team's offense as the Dons tallied 59 kills compared to the Matadors 34. USF proved to be a defensive power as well, holding the visitors to a .000 hitting percentage in set five.Â
Four Dons finished with double-digit kills.
Carly Lowry led with 14 kills, followed by Nora Buvarp-Lavik (13) and
Erica Ronda (11).Â
Erin Anthony recorded a match-high 47 assists and also tallied three aces in the match.Â
The Dons are back in action tomorrow to rematch with the Fresno State Bulldogs. First serve is set for 7 p.m.Â
