THE RUNDOWN
SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco women's basketball team departs the Bay Area today headed to Provo, Utah – home of BYU - to compete in their first West Coast Conference road game. The Dons (6-7, 1-1) will face the Cougars (6-7, 1-1) at the Marriot Center on Thursday evening, 6 p.m. PT/7 p.m. MT in their third WCC game.
BYU, voted to finish third in the conference, will look to stay undefeated at home for a second-consecutive season. In their last timeout, the Cougars fell to Saint Mary's in the East Bay, 49-57.
The Dons are coming off a convincing win in which they saw a season-high in field-goal percentage, shooting 50.0.
Anna Seilund highlighted the victory with her 36-point performance, a new career high. She hit six three pointers, bringing her one trey ball away from tying fourth in the USF record books for career three-point field-goals made (
159, Rheina Ale).
The two teams each have the single-game top scorers in the league, Don
Anna Seilund and Cougar Cassie Devashrayee, who have each had
36-point outings this year. The difference between the two guards being that Seilund leads the league in scoring (22.5), while Davasrayee sits in ninth (13.0).
SCOUTING BYU
- Devashrayee leads the Cougars with her 19.0 points per contest in overall play. She also leads in assists, with 5.0 per game.
- Brenna Chase is the only other BYU player to register 10-plus points per game with her 11.8.
- Shalae Salmon brings in 8.2 boards a game, leading the team.
- BYU is tops in blocked shots in the WCC (overall games) with 6.2 per game, 80 total.
- The Cougars sit right behind the Dons at No. 2 in the rankings for three-point field-goals made with 75 (Dons have 93).
- BYU leads the series 16-4, including a 8-1 history against the Dons when playing at home.
DONS BY THE NUMBERS
- Anna Seilund leads the WCC and the Dons roster in scoring, averaging 22.5 points per game. She is coming off a career-high 26-point performance.
- Seilund sits on top of the charts in the WCC in three-point field-goal percentage with her 60.0 percent (6-for-10). She is one three pointer away from tying fourth in the USF record books for career three pointers made (159).
- The Dons are tops in the WCC (overall games) in both three-point field-goals made with 7.2 per contest and defensive rebounds averaging 29.2 per game. In conference games only, USF ranks first in three-point field-goal percentage (37.5) and three-point field goals made (7.5).
- USF also ranks in the top five in seven categories in the WCC (conference-only games) including scoring offense (3rd, 69.0), field-goal percentage (2nd, 45.2), rebounding offense (T-5th, 39.0), rebounding defense (3rd, 38.5), assists (3rd, 16.0), steals (T-5th, 6.5), defensive rebounds (2nd, 28.5).
- The Dons are 4-16 against the Cougars and 1-8 when playing in Provo, Utah. The last win came in 2012.
