MORAGA, Calif. — The University of San Francisco men's soccer team was shutout, 8-0, by the 6th-ranked Saint Mary's College on Saturday afternoon at the Saint Mary's Stadium.
Both teams started out strong, keeping each other to zero shots on goal attempts up until the 28th minute when Saint Marys (13-0, 2-0 WCC) found their way past San Francisco's (3-8-1, 1-2-0 WCC) defensive presence. The Gaels started and ended the second half by adding seven more goals. At the 47th minute the Gaels mimicked its first goal of the match to the second as SMC's Anders Engebresten brought the ball up the left side of the field and crossed it to the center of the box to Joseph Restani for the tap in to lead 2-0. It did not stop there. The Gaels continued to dominate offensively after back-to-back goals were scored from Rudel and Restani that came in under a minute, starting at the 54th mark. Rudel dribbled the ball up to
Ruben Stuiver and popped it over his head from six-yards out. Restani got past the Dons and launched the ball from 18-yards and found the right corner of the net to lead, 4-0. Rudel recorded his 12th goal of the season as Restani notched his fourth.
Saint Marys final four goals of the match were scored from Lucus Andrews (2), Engebresten (1) and Phillipe Van Der Lof (1). Saint Marys outshot the Dons 28 to six.
