VB | No. 1 BYU Holds Serve On Home Court Over USF

PROVO, Utah — Four Dons posted multiple kills and Lena Bondar tallied multiple blocks for the seventh time in the last eight matches, but the No. 1 team in the nation had its way on its home court Saturday, as host BYU defeated the San Francisco volleyball team, 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-9) in a West Coast Conference match at Smith Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED

BYU (25-0, 15-0 WCC) never trailed in either of the first two sets, going on big runs throughout to secure comfortable leads and cruise to 25-12 wins in each of the first two frames. The Cougars started the first set on a 5-0 run that included three kills from three different players. They would later go on another 5-0 stretch that ended a quick 3-0 sprint by the Dons (8-19, 1-15 WCC) and made it 22-10.

The Cougars distanced themselves in set two with an early 9-0 run that included six kills from their offense and made the score 12-1. San Francisco took advantage of four BYU errors late in the set and a Bondar service ace to go on a 7-1 that pulled it within 10, but the Cougars scored each of the final three points on a kill from Madelyn Robinson, a service aces from Danelle Stetler and a USF error to take a 2-0 match lead.

USF took its first lead of the match early in the third thanks to kills from Bondar and Marjolijn Oskam that made it 2-1. But again BYU answered as it had all match with a run, posting a 6-0 run on six consecutive kills to take a 7-2 advantage and not look back. The Cougars scored the last five points of the set on four straight kills and a service aces from Roni Jones-Perry to clinch the match victory.
