WOMEN
Â
The San Francisco women continued their reign as one of the top teams in the West Region Friday by grabbing their fourth consecutive top-10 team finish. The Dons' top-five packed extremely well with all five scorers finishing within 51.6 seconds of each other. USF (276 points) outdistanced the next finishing team (Cal State Fullerton) by 40 points, while finishing within just three points of South Bay foe San Jose State (273).
Â
USF had three runners among the top-50, and all five of its scorers placed among the top-100 in the 250-person race. The Dons' 1-2-3 pack was especially efficient, finishing within 12.6 seconds and 10 places of each other.
Tatjana Schulte led the Dons for the third straight meet, finishing 37th with a time of 20 minutes, 44.8 seconds, across the 6-kilometer course.
Lizzie Bird followed just five spots behind her in 42nd in 20:51.6, and
Megan Davies closed out the strong pack in 47th in 20:57.4.
Â
Alena Ulrichova was also right there with the Dons' top-three as the team's fourth finisher on the day. Her time of 21:11.4 in 64th place made USF's 1-4 packing time an impressive 26.6 seconds.
Josephine Brysting closed out the Dons' scoring with a time of 21:36.4 in 96th place.
Â
Valerie Almanza finished with a time of 22:08.0 in 141st place.
Merel Van Der Marel placed 214th in 23:15.5 to round out the Dons' top-seven.
Â
MEN
Â
Jack Rowe ran the race of his career Friday and
Chris Olley laid out yet another impressive performance in a long list of them this season, as the San Francisco men placed two among the region's top-10 en route to finishing 11th as a team.
Â
Rowe and Olley ran with the lead pack for the entire race. Rowe, who's best individual finish this season was a fifth-place showing at the season-opening USF Invitational on Sept. 1, showed he was peaking at just the right time, as he finished fifth in the West Region out of more than 200 runners with a time of 29:45.7 across the 10 km course. Rowe was just 3.3 seconds behind the race winner, Nick Hauger of Portland – a runner he finished more than a minute behind two weeks ago at the West Coast Conference Championship.
Â
Olley posted his third consecutive top-10 finish and fourth in five meets this season with a ninth-place showing in 29:48.5. Olley was the third WCC finisher in the race behind Hauger and Rowe.
Â
Scott Halsted gave the Dons three runners in the top-100 with a 76th-place finish in 31:03.6.
Daniel Maneloveg (108th, 31:47.0) and
Caleb McClain (110th, 31:48.1) closed out the Dons' scoring by finishing within 1.1 seconds of each other.
Jacob Hernandez was the Dons' No. 6 runner in 174th, finishing in 33:17.4
