SAN FRANCISCO — The University of San Francisco's men's soccer team finished off the 2018 fall season with a 6-10-1 overall record. Head Coach
Eddie Soto gives a complete recap on the highs and lows of the season and what to expect for 2019.
HIGHLIGHT
- The Dons started out this past season strong as they defeated CSUN, 3-2 and later tying it to San Diego State 1-1 on Aug. 24 and 26 both at Negoesco Stadium.
- Game three was the highlight of the Dons season after beating Pac-12 member and nationally ranked UCLA in a 1-0 upset on Sept. 2.
DOWNFALL
- The Dons took a downturn after falling to Stanford, 2-0 at home on Sept. 7, which then became a domino effect as the Dons lost six straight games due to several injuries.
- USF found its way to escape from the losing streak after beating San Diego, 2-1 on Oct. 7 to start West Coast Conference play.
POTENTIAL WCC TITLE
- Conference play was a lift for the Dons after they took down No. 7 Portland in a 2-1 upset on Oct. 26 and Gonzaga, 2-0 on Oct. 28.
- The weekend sweep set the tone for San Francisco as they had the opportunity to compete for a potential WCC title after beating Santa Clara, 3-1 on Nov. 3. The Dons were tied with Pacific for second place both owning 12 points. The undefeated Saint Mary's College led the conference with 16.
- Pacific found success in their second to last game of the season as they beat San Diego to gain three solid points, that pushed the Dons down to third place.
- USF concluded its season with a loss to Loyola Marymount on the road on Nov. 10.
