SANTEE, Calif. – Harsh conditions made things difficult for the University of San Francisco men's golf team on the second day of the West Coast Conference Championships. The Dons finished the day 7-over with a team score of 295 at the par-72 Carlton Oaks Golf Club.
USF is currently in fifth with a two-day score of 585, ahead of them is Santa Clara with a 581, Saint Mary's is in third with a 578, BYU moved up to second today after carding the low round and now has a two-day score of 572, with Pepperdine remaining in the lead with a score of 563.
Leading the Dons is freshman
Toby Briggs who is currently tied for 11th. Briggs moved up five spots after carding a 1-under 71 on the day. Briggs was even at the turn and finished the day with birdies on three of the last four holes. After two days, he is currently even par with a 144.
USF's lone senior,
Jalen Griffin, rocketed up the leaderboard when he finished the day with a 1-under 71. Griffin moved up 10 spots on the leaderboard to a tie at 13 with a two-day score of 145. On Tuesday Griffin started strong, his first five holes featured three pars and two birdies. At the turn he was 1-under. He played near mistake-free golf on the final nine holes, the lone blemish was a bogey on 18 to bring him back to 1-under on the day.
Tim Widing finished the second round with a 6-over 78. His second-9 holes were much stronger than his first. He finished the afternoon with four birdies, including a birdie on nine to wrap up the day.
Freshmen
Alex Chin and
Soren Lind are tied for 28
th and 34
th respectively. Chin had another solid performance, finishing the round with a 3-over 75, while Lind carded a 6-over 78.
