Dons Capture Fifth, Briggs and Griffin Finish Inside Top-10

SANTEE, Calif. – On the final day of the West Coast Conference Championships the University of San Francisco men's golf team had its best round of the tournament, carding a 1-under 287. Senior Jalen Griffin and freshman Toby Briggs wrapped up impressive three day performances and finished tied for ninth.
USF finished fifth in deep tournament field with a three-day score of 8-over 872 (290, 295, 287). The Dons posted their best score of the tournament, the 1-under 287.
Leading the charge for USF on Wednesday was Griffin, who posted a team-low round of 2-under 70. Playing in his final WCC Championship Tournament, Griffin climbed up into the top-10, finishing tied for ninth with a three-day score of 215 (74-71-70). It is his best finish ever in the WCC, besting that of his freshman campaign, when he finished tied for 14th.
Griffin started his round with four-straight pars before he bogeyed the par-4 fifth, his lone blemish of the day. He responded with a birdie on six to finish even at the turn. On the back-9 he was flawless, with birdies on 11 and 15 to go into the clubhouse 2-under for the day.
Briggs tied with his senior teammate, finishing with a 1-under 71 giving him a three-day score of 215 (73-71-71). Briggs had the shot of the day when his second shot on No. 9 stuck a foot from the pin for a tap in eagle to finish the front-9 two under. He finished the tournament with 10 birdies and two eagles.
Tim Widing climbed two spots on the final day to finish tied for 22nd. He carded a 1-over 73 to finish the tournament with a 5-over 221 (70-78-73). Widing tallied four birdies on the afternoon to give him 12 for the tournament.
Soren Lind and Alex Chin finished tied for 29th. Lind rebounded from Tuesday's round to post a 1-over 73. He finished the tournament with an 8-over 224 (73-78-73). Chin played steady all week, and today he carded a 3-over 75 to finish with a 224 (74-75-75).
The individual champion was Pepperdine's Clay Feagler who finished the tournament with a 14-under 202. The Waves took home the team title, after leading wire-to-wire with a 26-under 838. Saint Mary's finished second with an 863, followed by Santa Clara and BYU at 866.
