THE RUNDOWN
Stanford, Calif. - The University of San Francisco track and field team capped their evening at the Cardinal Classic with the top time in the country, a school record and six personal bests all in the 5,000m.
Â
On the women's side, it was another impressive performance from
Marie Bouchard. The school record holder in three events took to the track in the 5,000-meter, the last event for the USF women's team, and put up a time of 15:32.95, which is now tops in the country in that event.
Lizzie Bird, competing unattached, set a personal best with her time of 16:20.74.
Â
Following up Bouchard's race was another solid 5,000m performance, but this time on the men's side.
Jacob Allen, competing in heat 1, would go out and best a two-year-old record in that event held by
Alex Short. Allen's time of 13:43.75 eclipses the previous school record by nearly four seconds and is a personal best for the senior.
Â
Jack Rowe,
Mohamed Aziz and
Caleb McClain would join Allen in the 5,000m and set personal bests of their own. Rowe, competing in the same heat as Allen, posted a mark of 13:58.04 to finish 13th in their heat. Aziz and McClain, competing in heat two, would put up times of 14:26.38 and 14:37.70, respectively.
Â
The Dons will be at the Cardinal Classic for day two of competition tomorrow, with their first event, men's 3,000m steeple chase, slated to begin at 4:59 p.m.

COACHES QUOTES
Head coach Helen Lehman-Winters
On the performance from Jacob
"Jacob executed perfectly and ran smoothly through the entire race. He took a huge step forward this evening and it was nice for him to be rewarded with a new school record and personal best."
Â
On the performance from Marie:
"Marie was impressive in her first ever 5000-meters on the track. She was extremely patient in the early stages of the race, hanging back of the front pack and then put the hammer down in the last kilometer and was not giving up on the homestretch. We knew she was capable of running very fast, but nice to see her do it with such patience and ease."
