The Rundown
SAN FRANCISCO - The University of San Francisco Dons baseball (26-26, 15-12 WCC) earned a win in their series finale against BYU (21-25, 10-14 WCC), 6-2, on the back of a strong pitching performance from
Landen Bourassa.
Â
USF would take the lead right away in the first inning. After
Jason Kreske reached on an error,
Michael Perri would earn a walk to put runners on first and second with one-out.
Riley Helland would step up next and launch a three-run home run over the wall in right center field to make it 3-0, USF, after one inning.
Â
The Dons starting pitcher,
Landen Bourassa, would keep the momentum with USF as he'd throw seven shutout innings following his scoreless first and the three run first inning.
Â
In the fifth, the Dons would add another run their first two-out base hit of the afternoon. After a one-out double from
Aaron Ping,
Jonathan Allen would get hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with one-out. After Kreske flied out to left, Perri would rope a line drive through the left side and into left field, bringing in Ping from second to make it 4-0.
Â
USF would add another two in the seventh inning, with the first coming on a Kreske's second sacrifice bunt of the afternoon, which brought Villaroman in from third. Perri would come up next and hit a towering pop-up into shallow right field. BYU's second baseman would lose it in the sun and his diving effort would not be enough to catch the ball, allowing Allen to score from second and Perri to slide into second safely.
Â
In the ninth, the Cougars would get to Bourassa to start the inning with back-to-back singles. After getting one out, Bourassa would allow a two-run double, which would end the day for the junior.
Grant Goodman would come on and get the final three outs of the game to earn the Dons a win in the series finale against BYU, 6-2.
Â
With this win, the Dons move to 26-26 and 15-12 in the WCC. USF will return to Benedetti Diamond for a non-conference game against UC Davis on Tuesday.
