SAN BRUNO, Calif. — San Francisco men's soccer midfielder
Sean Bowman was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week Monday for the week of Aug. 27 to Sept. 2 after scoring the game-winning goal that helped the Dons take down No. 8 UCLA on the road.
Â
Bowman scored the only goal that San Francisco (2-0-1) needed on Sunday night, and it allowed the Dons to beat the No. 8 team in the nation on the road, as USF defeated No. 8 UCLA, 1-0, in Westwood. It was the Bruins' first loss of the year and was the first goal UCLA allowed in 2018.
Â
Bowman's goal came in the 52nd minute after a scoreless first half between the two teams. Bowman scored on a counter attack, where
Jorge Ruiz was able to take the ball up the right side and cross it, finding Bowman on the left for the score.
Â
Bowman and the Dons have another big game against a Pac-12 opponent this week. USF returns home on Friday to host three-time defending national champion, current national No. 10 and Bay Area foe Stanford. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday at Negoesco Stadium.
