SAN FRANCISCO — The University of San Francisco men's soccer team finished the weekend with a victory to remember as they defeated No. 8 UCLA on Sunday. This week, No. 16 San Francisco (2-0-1) will look to continue its winning streak against No. 25 Stanford (0-0-3) on Friday at Negoesco Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT
Over the weekend, San Francisco faced the Bruins in a thrilling matchup on the road. Senior, Sean Bowman not only led the team with five shot attempts and four shots on goal, but scored the game winning goal to take down UCLA at the 52nd minute. Bowman scored on a counter attack, where Jorge Ruiz was able to take the ball up the right side and cross it, finding Bowman on the left for the score. Dons goalkeeper Ruben Stuiver made eight crucial saves, three of those being captured in the last five minutes of play. Bowman's success on scoring the game winning goal awarded him WCC player of the week.

DONS IN NATIONAL RANKINGS
After Sunday night's win, the Dons appeared in two nationally ranked polls this week entering at No. 16 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and No. 2 in the Western Region Poll. No. 16 San Francisco stands before Friday night's competitor, Stanford as they are ranked No. 25.

SAN FRANCISCO-STANFORD SERIES
Last season, the Dons fell to Stanford 1-0 after having three chances to tie the game, but could not cash in their chances. San Francisco outshot Stanford 12-to-6 as both teams had three shots-on-goal apiece. The last time the Dons beat Stanford at Negoesco Stadium was on September 23, 2016 for the first time since 2007, 2-1.

SOCCER SCARF GIVEAWAY
This Friday, San Francisco will be throwing out USF scarfs sponsored by Evergreen Fine Foods throughout the entire game for those who will be attending. Come support the Dons on Friday at 7 p.m. and you might be lucky enough to get a warm and cozy scarf.

UP NEXT
San Francisco will compete in three road games next week against San Jose State, Air Force and Denver on Sept. 10, 14, and 16.
