SAN FRANCISCO — No. 16 San Francisco (2-1-1) fought competitively to No. 25 Stanford (1-0-3), but it was Stanford who pulled away with a 2-0 victory on Friday night at Negoesco Stadium.
The Dons and the Cardinal remained scoreless up until the 67th minute when Stanford shot two goals in a span of two minutes. Stanford took control offensively when Logan Panchot found Zach Ryan inside the box who then tapped it to Derek Waldeck for the first goal of the game to lead the Dons 1-0. Just minutes later, Waldeck's offensive presence assisted a pass to Adam Mosharrafa who was able to get past
Ruben Stuiver for the second goal of the match, 2-0.
San Francisco did not to give up in the last ten minutes of play when
Sean Bowman and
Sandro Bradara shot from 18-yards out, but both their shots were blocked by Stanford's goalkeeper Andrew Thomas.
Cameron Martin and Bowman continued to execute for the Dons as they both attempted headers in the last couple of minutes, but their aggressiveness could not find the backend of the net. Bowman and Bradara tallied a team-high three shots as Bradara led the team with two shots on goal. The Dons totaled six powerful shots solely in the second half led by Martin, Bradara, Orr, and Bowman.
