CARROLLTON, Texas – The University of San Francisco men's golf team spent Monday's second round of the Maridoe Intercollegiate climbing the leaderboard. The Dons moved up three spots to finish tied for fifth through two rounds after shooting a 10-over 298 in the second. After 36 holes, USF has a 28-over 604 (306-298).
"Today was a great response," said head coach
Jack Kennedy. "To shoot one of the best rounds of the day in those conditions shows what kind of talent and resolve this group has. We put ourselves right back in position to win a golf tournament. We are ready for a good old fashioned Texas Shootout tomorrow."
USF finished the day with three in the top-25 and were once again led by their sophomores.
Christoffer Palsson climbed 11 spots Monday to finish tied for fourth after shooting an even par-72. After 36 holes he has a 2-over 146 (74-72). Palsson opened the day on the 10th and went 2-over on 10-18. He recorded birdies on 14, 17, and seven, but the big hole was on the par-5 fourth when he carded an eagle. On the second shot, Palsson launched his 3-iron 255 yards, which landed a foot from the pin for the tap-in eagle. He's one of five players to card an eagle in this tournament. His 25 pars are tied for third in the tournament after two rounds.
Matthew Anderson held steady and finished the afternoon tied for 16th. Anderson completed the second round with a 4-over 76. After two rounds, Anderson has a 6-over 150 (74-76).
Tim Widing finished behind Anderson, climbing 13 spots on the leaderboard to finish the day tied at 25th. Widing shot a 2-over 74, giving him a two-day score of 8-over 152 (78-74).
Alex Chin and
Toby Briggs also moved up the leaderboard on the second day. Chin climbed 12 spots to finish tied at 41st with a 12-over 156 (80-76). Briggs moved up eight spots to finished tied at 48th with a 14-over 158 (81-77).
SMU remains in the lead after two days with a 16-over 591 (287-304). SMU's leader Noah Goodwin is the individual leader with a 2-under 142 (68-74).
The Dons will be partnered with Texas A&M and Washington in the final round and will be teeing off at 8 a.m. central time.
