WGOLF | Dons Return to Pacific Northwest for Familiar Tournament

The University of San Francisco women's golf team is back in the Pacific Northwest, competing in a familiar tournament this week.  The Dons will travel to Sammamish, Wash., to participate in the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational hosted by Washington at Sahalee Country Club.

"We are looking forward to playing at Washington's tournament here at Sahalee," said head coach Sara Doell. "This is a great golf course, with challenging greens and visually difficult tee shots. This course definitely will test the players mental focus and strength. After a couple of weeks off from our last event, the team looks and seems very refreshed and ready to go."

The Course
The 54-hole tournament will be played at the par-72, 5,980 yard Sahalee Country Club. Sahalee was designed by noted golf course architect Ted Robinson with later renovations by Rees Jones. It has been consistently ranked in the top 100 courses in America by Golf Digest for over 30 years. This all weather, year round course is characteristically Northwest with majestic Douglas fir, red cedar and hemlock trees lining its narrow fairways.

The Field (11)
Joining the Dons this week will be Washington, Idaho, Cal Poly, Nebraska, Rutgers, BYU, Seattle, UC Davis, Long Beach State, and Sacramento State.

The Dons
USF is coming off a strong finish at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic two weeks ago.  The Dons had three players finish in the top-15 with Annika Borrelli and Pearl Rojanapeansatith both finishing in the top-5. Borrelli climbed 15 spots on the final day to finish in third, while Rojanapeansatith continued her steady play in 2019-20 and finished in a tie for fourth. USF will be going with their same lineup: Samantha Gong, Borrelli, Rojanapeansatith, Jade Siphomsay and Joan Soewondo. This is the sixth time in the last seven years the Dons have competed in this tournament, their top finish was a fourth place finish in 2017 and 2015.  Last time out, Rojanapeansatith finished tied for 12th.  In 2017, Gong finished at a tie for 16th.
