MGOLF | Dons Capture Second at Maridoe Invitational

CARROLLTON, Texas — For the second consecutive day, the University of San Francisco men's golf team moved up the leaderboard at the Maridoe Invitational hosted by North Texas where it finished tied for second with a 42-over 906 (306-298-302). The Dons had three players finish in the top-20 and were once again led by sophomore Christoffer Palsson who finished tied for sixth.

"Today was another great grind," said head coach Jack Kennedy. "We had moments where we could have let today get away from us, but great teams find ways to compete and persevere and that's what we did. Being able to play with and beat some of the country's best teams gives us confidence heading into next week."

Palsson tallied his second career top-10 finish, first since a third-place finish at last year's WCC Championships by finishing tied for sixth. The native of Helsingborg, Sweden, scored a 4-over 76, giving him a three-day score of 6-over 222 (74-72-76). Palsson opened the round with five straight pars before recording bogeys on six, eight, 10, and 11. He finished strong recording birdies on 14 and 15 before carding a double bogey on 18. For the tournament, Palsson finished with five birdies and an eagle. His 36 pars for the tournament were tied with teammate Tim Widing for third most over 54 holes.

In second for the Dons was fellow sophomore Matthew Anderson. Anderson finished the tournament tied for 12th with a 9-over 225 (74-76-75). On the final day, he shot a 3-over and moved up two spots on the leaderboard, it is his second top-20 finish of the season. Anderson opened the round with an even-par front-nine, carding birdies on four and six. On the back-nine, he sandwiched a birdie on 15 with bogeys on 12, 14, 17 and 18.

After a sluggish start to his round, senior Tim Widing still moved up three spots on the board to finish in the top-20. Widing doubled the second and tripled the fourth to open the round five over. He carded a birdie on six to get back to 4-over where he stayed after finishing the round with 12 consecutive pars. After three days, Widing finished with a 12-over 228 (78-74-76).

Toby Briggs had his best round of the tournament, shooting a 3-over 75. In doing so, he moved up eight spots on the final day to finish tied for 40th.
