Our fifth in a series honoring our 2019 Hall of Fame, today we would like to highlight San Francisco women's basketball's guard, Dominique Carter. Formal induction ceremonies are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 22, at the Father Hubert "Hub" Flynn Hall of Fame Dinner in War Memorial at the Sobrato Center on the USF campus. The festivities will begin with a reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by the dinner program at 7:30 p.m. The inductees will also be honored at halftime of the USF-Gonzaga women's basketball game on Feb. 23.
Dominique Carter was known for being a dynamic scorer and creating her own shot in a variety of ways for the University of San Francisco women's basketball team. The talent didn't just come alive when Carter arrived to the Hilltop, it was a natural talent that sparked in her high school career. The McDonald's All-American honoree averaged 29.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game in her high school career. Once she got to USF nothing's changed.
"I recruited Dom and coached her during her first two seasons at USF. Dom was a game changer with her ability to score. She always drew the other team's best defenders," said head coach Mary Hile-Nepfel (1997-2006).
Carter was a a four-time First Team All-WCC honoree that led the Dons in scoring in all four seasons. She is the second leading scorer in USF history, trailing former head coach Mary Hile-Nepfel. Carter was unstoppable offensively and certainly made a name for herself as she is second in 3-point shooting percentage (41.0 percent), third in scoring average (15.4 ppg), and sixth in minutes played in USF program history.
"Dom was a quite leader one the court, but her numbers usually spoke volumes. She led the team in an upset win over Gonzaga, the #1 seed in the WCC Tournament in 2006, at Gonzaga. Dom usually came up big in the big games," said Mary Hile-Nepfel.
The California native led the team as a leader on the court and off the court, as she was an inspirational student-athlete that earned WCC All-Academic recognitions for three-straight years. The authenticity and courage that she walked away with from the Hilltop, was one of just two players in the history of USF women's basketball for being named First Team All-WCC in all four years of her career (2005-08) along with being named as the second leading scorer in program history.
"I loved coaching Dom because of the amazing basketball player she was, but also because of the person she was. I will always cherish the conversations we had and miss seeing her contagious smile and laugh. There isn't a more deserving player to be inducted in USF's Hall of Fame," said head coach Tanya Haave (2006-10).
The 5'11'' memorable guard was raised in Tracy, Calif. and graduated from the Hilltop with an Accounting degree. She currently works as a portfolio manager at Wells Fargo Bank while also volunteering at Habitat for Humanity through the Wells Fargo company.
The rich and storied tradition of USF Athletics will come alive on Friday, February 22 with the induction of six new members and a team into the school's distinguished Athletic Hall of Fame.
USF's Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2019, the 45th group of inductees, includes: Teresa (Russell) Fowler '04 (volleyball), Chubby Cox '78 (men's basketball), John Cox '05 (men's basketball), Dominique Carter '08 (women's basketball), Coach Walt Bugler 1976-80 (women's basketball), and Felipe Magalháes '81 (men's soccer), as well as the 2009 women's cross country team.
With the inclusion of the new members, USF's Athletic Hall of Fame now includes 278 individuals and 23 teams.

Individual reservations for the Father Hubert "Hub" Flynn Hall of Fame Dinner are priced at $100 while a table of 10 may be purchased for $900.
The Athletic Department has announced the formation of an athletic alumni association whose mission will be to engage and connect former students across different sports, generations and geographical areas in an attempt to build and foster an on-going association with USF Athletics.
All former students who have competed for a minimum of one year in an intercollegiate sport are eligible, as are team managers and spirit squad members who compiled at least three years of service as an undergraduate
