PALM DESERT, Calif. – The University of San Francisco men's golf team came roaring back on the second day of the Wyoming Desert Invitational at the Classic Club. The Dons climbed nine spots on the leaderboard to finish inside the top-10.
USF finished the second day with a 2-under 286 they were one of four teams to finish under par as a team. After 36 holes USF is 18-over with a team score of 594 just six back of the top-five.
"Today was a very solid response," said head coach
Jack Kennedy. "We have started the long road back from the position we put ourselves in yesterday. We will be ready tomorrow to make another run."
Following round one, the Dons only had one player in the top-50. After 36 holes, USF now has four players in the top-50, including three in the top-35. Leading the charge for the Dons was
Tim Widing and
Toby Briggs. Both players climbed 49 spots on the leaderboard, they started the day tied for 78
th and after carding 2-under 70's they are tied for 29
th.
Widing had four birdies and an eagle on four. For the tournament he now has six birdies and an eagle. After 36 he has a 4-over 148. Briggs joins Widing at 29
th, the sophomore started the round with three birdies on the front-nine, he finished the day with five birdies overall.
Freshman
Christoffer Palsson started the day tied for 47
th, he moved up 12 spots on the leaderboard to finish the second day tied for 35
th. Palsson carded a 1-over 73 on the day, giving him a 36-hole score of 5-over 149.
Soren Lind climbed up to a tie at 41
st after finishing with a 1-over 73 on the second day. After 36 holes he has a 6-over 150.
Alex Chin is tied for 62
nd after a 3-over 75.
After two days, Texas Tech is the team leader with a 4-under 572. They are one of just three teams under part after 36 holes. The individual leader is Boise State's Skyler Eubank who is 8-under with a 136.
The tournament concludes tomorrow when the Dons tee off at 7:50 a.m.
