MGOLF | Two Finish in the Top-10 as the Dons Finish Tied for Fourth

SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco men's golf team climbed its way back into the top-five with a 4-over 288 – the second lowest round of the day, at a very windy final round of the Olympic Club Invitational at the historic Lake Course at the Olympic Club.
 
The Dons finished the tournament in a tie at fourth with No. 28 BYU with a 16-over 868 (295-284-288).  The Dons finished with three players in the top-20 led with Alex Chin and Tim Widing both cracking the top-10.  
 
"Thank you to the Olympic Club, it's members, and staff for hosting an incredible event. It was an honor to host a collegiate event on such a historic course!" said head coach Jack Kennedy. "This week had its highs and lows and while we didn't get the end result we were looking for, we battled through tough conditions to get a get another top-five finish. This group has a lot left in the tank and we are excited to compete again in a few weeks."
 
After a blistering final round, sophomore Alex Chin recorded his first career top-five finish.  Chin carded a 3-under 68 in the final round to finish the tournament with a 2-under 211 (72-71-68).  The Dons' sophomore recorded six birdies on the day, giving him 10 birdies and an eagle for the tournament as he turned in one of his best collegiate rounds.
 
Junior Tim Widing joined Chin in the top-10.  Widing finished tied for ninth with a 1-over 214 (74-67-73).  In the final round, Widing birdied hole one and seven to give him 12 for the tournament which is tied for third most in the tournament.
 
Soren Lind climbed 18 spots on the leaderboard on the final day to crack the top-20.  He moved into a tie at 18th with a 5-over 218 (74-73-71).
 
Toby Briggs and Christoffer Palsson both finished tied at 53rd at 16-over 229.  Briggs carded a 5-over 76 on the day to go 76-77-76 for the tournament.  Palsson finished with an 8-over 79 to go 76-73-79.
 
Matthew Anderson finished his tournament with a 5-over 76.  Competing as an individual, Anderson finished in a tie at 24th with a 7-over 220 (71-73-76).  Christopher Adnams also competed as an individual.  He finished tied for 48th with a 14-over 227 (70-80-77).
 
Taking home the team title was Nevada who finished with a 3-under 849 (288-275-286).  UNR's Sam Meek was the individual champion finishing with a 4-under 209 (73-66-70).
 
The Dons will be off next week, they will return to action on Monday, Mar. 25 when they travel to Creswell, Ore., to compete at the Duck Invitational hosted by Oregon at Emerald Valley Golf Club.
