NAPA, Calif. – The University of San Francisco women's golf team had a tough afternoon and finished the day with a 21-over 309. After 36 holes the Dons are in 18th with a 45-over 621 (312-309) at the Silverado Showdown at the par-72 Silverado Resort and Spa.
Freshman Annika Borrelli had a strong day climbing 29 spots on the leader board to finish inside the top-40 tied at 37th. Borrelli recorded a 2-over 74 giving her an 8-over 152 (78-74) for the tournament. She opened the round going bogey-bogey on 10 and 11 before carding birdies on 12, 15, and 17 to go 1-under at the turn. She finished the day with four birdies total.
"Today was tough," said assistant coach Devin Dougherty. "Though we did not finish the way we had hoped, we improved upon yesterday's score and had moved up the leaderboard early in the day. We need to minimize the big numbers and be smarter with our approach shots. To be led by a freshman shows just how bright the future of our program looks. There is so much fight in this team, I know tomorrow will bring good things!"
Samantha Gong finished second for the Dons, and comes in at 63rd after finishing the day with a 7-over 79. After two rounds she has an 11-over 155 (76-79). She recorded a birdie on 11, giving her three for the tournament.
Pearl Rojanapeansatith is 13-over after 36 holes. She finished the day with an 8-over 80 giving her a two-day score of 157 (77-80). Jade Siphomsay was one of two Dons to post a better score in the second round. She was 4-over on the day, giving her a two-day score of 14-over 158 (82-76).
Joan Soewondo placed in fifth for the Dons, she carded a 10-over 82 giving her a 19-over 163 (81-82) which has her sitting in 89th.
Northwestern's Brooke Riley is the individual leader after finishing the afternoon with a 2-under 70. For the tournament she has a 4-under 140. The Wildcats are the team leaders after 36 holes at even par 576 (291-285), they are the only team at par.
The tournament wraps up tomorrow morning with the Dons teeing off at 9:39 they will be partnered with Colorado State and New Mexico.
