WSOC | Humphrey Scores Twice and the Dons Win

SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco women's soccer team got a pair of goals from Ashley Humphrey and overcame a wild first half as the Dons (7-3-1) defeated visiting UC Davis (5-5-0) 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Negoesco Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPNED
• USF overcame a sluggish start and finished the afternoon with 13 shots, seven on goal.  The Aggies responded with 10 shots, four of which were on target.  In the opening half, UCD outshot the Dons 4-2, however, the limited offensive production was affective as both shots USF took in the opening half went to the back of the net.

• The Dons got on the board first when Ashley Humphrey scored the first of her two goals on the day.  She found a loose ball in the box and sent it past the keeper to put the Dons up 1-0 at the 18 minute mark.

• The Final five minutes of the opening half were intense.  The Aggies scored the first of their two goals in the half when Olivia Jones took the feed from Janae Gonzalez and got a wide open look at the goal to beat Olivia Camera.

Sydney Cooper scored her fourth of the season and second goal in as many days when she sent Kalena Teufel's cross past UC Davis' keeper Jessica Lima (2-2-0).  The 2-1 advantage didn't last long as the Aggies scored the equalizer 40 seconds later when Gonzalez beat the Dons' defense and blasted a shot to the top corner of the goal to make it 2-2 at the half.

• Out of the intermission, the Dons were much crisper.  USF finished the final 45 minutes with 11 shots, five of which were on target.  Miciah Madison had a pair of shots that required unbelievable plays by the Aggie's keeper to keep the ball from finding the back of the net.

• At the 62nd minute, Humphrey struck gold once again, this time corralling a rebounded shot making a move to her right and chipping the ball past the diving keeper to give USF the 3-2 lead.

• The Dons defense took over from there, keeping the Aggies scoreless for the final 45 minutes.  Camera earned the win, she improves to 7-3-1 and picked up a pair of saves.

NOTABLE NUMBERS
3: With her two goals tonight, Ashley Humphrey becomes the third player this season to record a multi-goal game.  She joins Samantha Jehnings (at Hawaii) and Miciah Madison (vs. UC Riverside) to also score a brace. Making just her second career start, Humphrey finished the day with four shots, two on goal.
7-1:  The Dons improve to 7-1 when they score first.  The only game in which USF hasn't come away with the win after striking first came in the overtime loss at Northeastern on Sep. 15.
7-3-1:  USF's 7-3-1 is their best start under head coach Jim Millinder, it surpasses the Dons 7-4-0 start from last year and the 6-2-3 start in 2015.
