ROCKY FACE, GA – The University of San Francisco men's golf team was led by junior
Alex Chin who climbed 24 places on the leaderboard to finish the day tied for 24
th. Overall, the Dons find themselves in 11
th after finishing with a 13-over 301. After two days, USF is 25-over 601 (300-301) at the Carpet Capital Intercollegiate at the Farms Golf Club.
"Today's play will test our character going into tomorrow," said head coach
Jack Kennedy. "We took some body blows that we have to accept and learn from. I was extremely happy with Matt (Anderson) and Alex (Chin). They really kept us in it today. There is no doubt the entire group will be ready to compete tomorrow."
Chin opened the day with six-straight pars before he bogeyed the par-4 seventh. He then went on to record pars on eight and nine to go into the turn 1-over. On the back-9 Chin was brilliant. A bogey on 16 was the lone blemish, coming after back-to-back birdies on 14 and 15. After a par on 17 he finished his round with a birdie on 18 to finish the day with a 1-under 71. After 36 holes, Chin has a 4-over 148 (77-71).
Matthew Anderson also moved up the leaderboard on the second day, rising six spots to finish the afternoon tied for 24
th. Once again, he was steady, carding a 1-over 73, which gave him a two-day score of 5-over 148 (75-73). Like Chin, Anderson opened his day with a string of pars. Bogeys on six and eight had him 2-over before he carded a birdie on nine to go into the turn 1-over. On the back, Anderson played even golf with a bogey on 13 being cancelled out by a birdie on 15. For the tournament, Anderson and Chin are tied with 24 pars apiece, which is sixth-most in the tournament.
In third for the Dons is senior
Tim Widing, whose rough day saw him fall to a tie at 48
th. Widing finished the afternoon with a 7-over 79. After 36 holes, Widing has an 8-over 152 (73-79). He carded three birdies on the day, giving him seven for the tournament. That's tied for 19
th most in the talented field.
Soren Lind and
Christoffer Palsson finished tied for 62
nd and 72
nd respectively. Lind finished the day with a 6-over 78, giving him a 36-hole score of 12-over 156 (78-78). Palsson finished the afternoon with a 12-over 84. After two rounds he has a 15-over 159 (75-84).
Georgia Tech remains in the lead after two rounds. The Yellow Jackets finished the day with a 3-under 569 (284-285). The individual leader is Georgia Tech's Luke Schniederjans who has a 9-under 135 (68-67) after two days.
The Dons wrap up the tournament tomorrow when they tee off from the 10
