SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Four University of San Francisco cross country student-athletes were named West Coast Conference All-Academic Honorable Mention Thursday by the conference office for their performances in the classroom and on the course during the 2019 season.

USF had two men and two women earn the accolades.
Jacob Hernandez and
Daniel Maneloveg for the men, and
Aoibhe Richardson and
Josien Scheepens for the women were honored.

Hernandez carried a 3.36 cumulative Grade Point Average during the fall season in his environmental studies major. He competed in four of the Dons' meets, finishing among the team's top-five each time. He was USF's No. 2 runner in his season debut at the UC Davis Stump Invitational on Sept. 13, running a collegiate-best 25 minutes, 49.0 seconds. He later broke the 26-minute mark and was among the Dons' top-three finishers at the Pre-National Invitational on Oct. 19 with a time of 25:58.4.

Maneloveg was a 3.26-GPA student while majoring in politics, and he was part of the Dons' top-seven all season long. He was USF's No. 3 runner at the WCC Championships, finishing 34th overall in 25:08.6. That time at the WCC Championships was a minute faster than his previous race two weeks earlier, when he ran 26:09.6 at the Pre-National Invitational, finishing 57th. He got faster and faster as the season went along, lowering his 8-kilometer time from 27:09.6 in Sept. 13 to 25:08.6 on Nov. 1.

Richardson spent her first semester at USF this fall after transferring from the University of Portland and posted a 3.85 GPA in her public health major. She was also an All-American on the cross country course, finishing 19th at the NCAA National Championship in November. She was the Dons' top runner all season long. She tallied two victories (Roy Griak Invitational, Sept. 28; Pre-National Invitational, Oct. 19) and five top-five finishes overall.

Scheepens held a perfect 4.00 GPA in her behavioral health graduate program while also running as part of the Dons' top-seven all season long. She ran a season-best 22:32.9 in the season-opening USF Invitational on Aug. 31, finishing 26th. She Also finished 57th in 22:35.7 at the West Coast Conference Championships.

During the tenure of USF Director of Track & Field and Cross Country
Pat McCurry, the Dons have received 14 individual WCC Cross Country All-Academic Awards. The men's and women's teams were both named All-Academic by the USTFCCCA last season. Both outdoor track teams were named USTFCCCA All-Academic as well, along with five individual student-athletes.
