Soren Lind, and
Tim Widing were among in the first wave of student-athletes named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars announced Wednesday.
It was a record setting year for the award, as 614 student-athletes earned the title of All-America Scholar, the most since the award's inception in 1982. Of the 611 honorees, 376 players were Division I selections. 2020 marks the first year in which sophomores are eligible for the award.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. For 2019-20 only, they must participate in 40 percent of the team's competitive rounds.
Anderson, Lind, and Widing all recently earned West Coast Conference All-Academic honors, with Widing and Lind earning First Team recognition while Anderson took home Honorable Mention honors.
For Widing, a three-time WCC All-Academic Team First Team honoree, this is his first All-America Scholar honors. The International Business major finished his senior year with a 3.70 cumulative GPA. Widing tallied three top-10 finishes on the year, including a tournament championship at the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic, where he recorded 17 birdies in the 54-hole tournament. In 18 rounds played this year, he finished with 11 at par or better and led the Dons with a 72.3 stroke average.
Lind, an Economics major, boasts a 3.69 GPA, In four tournaments this season, Lind averaged a 74.5 stroke average. He recorded a top-10 finish at the Orange Country Classic, helping the Dons capture their first team title since April 2018.
Anderson, a sophomore, is an undeclared business major sporting a 3.44 GPA. Anderson had a breakout campaign in 2019-20, with three top-10 finishes. He led the Dons in three tournaments, and took second at the Oregon State Invitational. His 72.5 stroke average was second only to Widing's 72.3. Anderson finished the year with 49 birdies and recorded a hole-in-one on the third round of the Orange County Classic.
