STOCKTON, Calif. – After being outscored 19-7 in the opening quarter the University of San Francisco women's basketball team battled hard but could not dig themselves out of the early 11 point deficit, falling to host Pacific 83-63 on Thursday night at Alex G. Spanos Center.
 
"I thought our effort was better tonight, I thought we tried to be a little tougher," said head coach Molly Goodenbour. "But we have to be able to make some baskets.  We aren't getting good shots we are leaning left and leaning right we aren't getting our feet set.  You aren't going to beat a lot of teams in this league shooting 4-for-31 from 30 point range."
 
USF (4-6, 0-4 WCC) offensive woes continued tonight. After starting the year on a torrid pace from beyond the arc, the Dons 3-point shooting has gone cold.  USF finished the night 4-for-31 – in conference play the Dons are shooting 16.0 percent from beyond the arc going 15-for-94. In the opening quarter, USF was 1-for-10 from long range.  And finished the game 1-for-12 in the second half.
 
Pacific (4-2, 2-1 WCC) got most of its production inside the paint, scoring 42 of their 83 points inside the key.  The Tigers had four players in double figures and were led by Valerie Higgins 21 points.  She also grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double. Joining Higgins in double figures was Brooklyn McDavid and Lianna Tillman with 16 each, and Sam Ashby who had 13.
 
USF had three players in double figures and was led by the strong play of Lucie Hoskova who had a game-high 22 along with eight rebound and three steals.
 
"I thought there were a few bright spots tonight and Lucie was one of them," said Goodenbour.  "She had a really good game for us.  I also though Jess (Jessica McDowell-White), is someone who can help us so it was good to see her make her debut. We just need to find more people who can put the ball in the basket for us on a consistent basis."
 
Joining Hoskova in double figures was Ioanna Krimili with 18 points along with five rebounds and Abby Rathbun who had 10 points and seven rebounds. McDowell-White had three points and five assists in her debut in the Green and Gold.
 
USF will return to action on Saturday when they travel to McKeon Pavilion to take on Saint Mary's. That game is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. The game will be streamed on the WCC Network and George Devine will have the call on the Dons Audio Network.
