STANFORD, Calif. – Taking on a much more experienced team, the young University of San Francisco men's soccer team fell to No. 4 Stanford 5-0 on Monday evening at Cagan Stadium.
 
USF (0-2-0) who boasts a roster that includes 20 underclassmen struggled against the Cardinal (2-0-0) who outshot the Dons 17-1, including an 8-0 shots on goal advantage.
 
After little action for the first 16 minutes, the Cardinal struck first on an unassisted goal by Keegan Tingey. Tingey took a shot from the right foot at the left corner of the box to the right side of the goal past a diving Ruben Stuiver (0-2-0).
 
The Cardinal scored their second and third goal in a 11-minute span late in the first half. The first on a goal by Will Richmond in the 25^th minute.  Richmond ran into the box and took a shot from the left side that deflected off a defender. 
 
In the 36^th minute Tingey sent a cross to the center of the penalty box where Zach Ryan corralled it and fired a shot past the Dons' senior keeper.
 
The two sides went into the intermission with the Cardinal owning a 3-0 advantage.  USF could not figure out a way around Stanford's defense, and was unable to get a shot off in the opening period.
 
Early in the second half, freshman Nonso Adimabua took the only shot of the game for USF.  The shot was on target but was blocked by a Stanford defender.
 
The Cardinal's keeper Andrew Thomas (2-0-0) got the win.  He finished the game with no saves and did not have any shots sent his direction. Stuiver played the full 90 for USF and tallied three saves.
 
In the second half the Cardinal added goals in the 59^th minute and the 78^th minute. 
 
USF will now turn its attention to West Coast Conference play. The Dons will return to the pitch on Saturday, February 20^th at 4:30 p.m. when they take on the Pacific Tigers.
