SAN MATEO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco men's soccer team had six players earn all-conference honors as announced by the West Coast Conference on Friday afternoon. Freshman forward
Nonso Adimabua was named the WCC Freshman of the Year as well as taking home first team and all-freshman team honors.
Shayan Charalaghi,
Kevyn Lo,
Ivo Neto, and
Dominic Valdivia earned honorable mention honors while
Gabriel Bracken Serra joined Adimabua on the all-freshmen team.
Adimabua takes home three all-conference honors after a dominating freshman campaign. The native of Asaba, Nigeria finished the year with three goals and five assists for 11 points. All of which led the Dons. The 11 points scored was second most in the WCC. In WCC play, his three goals scored was third most, while his four assists was tops in the conference.
USF's talented backrow, which helped to hold opponents to just nine goals on the year, saw defenders Charalaghi and Lo earn honorable mention accolades.
For Charalaghi this ends two tremendous years on the Hilltop. The senior from San Bruno, Calif., played in all 10 matches with nine starts on the year. His 877 minutes played was third on the team behind Lo and Adimabua.
Lo had a tremendous first year at USF. The 5-foot, 4-inch defender was relentless as he mixed it up with the opponents attacking players. Lo, the Portland, Ore., native played in and started all 10 games this season and logged a team-leading 918 minutes. He also tallied four points on one goal and two assists. His lone goal of the season was the game-winning goal which came in the 61
st minute of USF's 3-2 road win over Pacific early in the year.
Newcomers
Ivo Neto and
Dominic Valdivia made big contributions at the midfield to earn honorable mention honors. Neto, the native of Brazil, finished with one goal and one assist for three points. He fired 14 shots on the year, seven of which were on goal for a team-high .500 shots on goal percentage.
Valdivia played in 10 matches with six starts. He finished the year with one goal – the game winning goal in the 88
th minute over Pacific on March 21
st. Valdivia took eight shots with three on goal for a .375 shots on goal percentage.
Gabriel Bracken Serra took home all-freshman honors after playing in nine matches. He finished the year with a goal which came in the 2-0 win over Santa Clara on March 7. Bracken Serra took just three shots on the year, but he made it count with the goal against the Broncos.
The Dons finished the year number two under head coach
Leonard Griffin with an overall record of 5-4-2. In WCC play USF finished 3-2-2 which was tied for third with San Diego. The Dons were picked to finish last in the preseason coaches' poll.
