Demon Deacons Upend Dons in Season Opener

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The University of San Francisco men's soccer team (0-1) scored first on Thursday night, but ultimately came up short against Wake Forest (1-0), 4-2, at Spry Stadium.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco opened the scoring when David Raphael danced through the opposing defense to score his first goal of the season in the 14th minute, assisted by Kaleb Afsari.
- The Demon Deacons responded to make it a 1-1 game on a goal from Jeffrey White in the 20th minute following assists from Tate Lorentz and Jose Perez.
- Just a few minutes later, Wake Forest went on top, 2-1, on a penalty kick goal from Perez at 22:07.
- Trading blows, the Dons leveled the match at 2-2 with Brayden Beason's first goal of the season at 25:17, which came off an assist from Isaiah Easley.
- Moving into the second half, Wake Forest broke the draw on Philip Biskupski's goal in the 57th minute, assisted by Ronnie Garcia and Daniel Krueger. Doubling the score, White netted his second goal of the evening at 76:18 to put the Demon Deacons up by two.
- The score would hold for the remainder of the match as Wake Forest held on to secure a 4-2 victory on Thursday night.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Raphael paced San Francisco with three total shots, while Beason, Ben Norris, Nico Ruiz, and Jaedyn Walters also recorded two shots each. Ruiz and Walters both notched the first shots of their collegiate careers against the Demon Deacons.
- Six Dons made their debut in the green and gold at Wake Forest - Ruiz, Ben Brody, Marci Killeen, Braylon Jernigan, Sammy Long, and Elias Steinskog.
- After missing last season with an injury, Easley returned to the pitch in a regular season match for the first time since 2024.
