WBB | Owen Brown Named Assistant Coach for Player Development

SAN FRANCISCO – Fifth year head coach Molly Goodenbour is pleased to announce the addition of Owen Brown to her coaching staff. Brown will join the staff in the newly created assistant coach for player development.

"We are extremely pleased to be able to hire Owen as our Assistant Coach for Player Development," said Goodenbour. "He has been an intelligent, reliable and hardworking practice player as an undergraduate and has taken on greater responsibility within our program as a volunteer assistant this past season as a response to COVID. He will be an asset to our program and we look forward to his development in this newly created position."

This will be Brown's second season on Goodenbour's staff, his first as the player development coach. Brown served as the volunteer assistant last season, he was a key piece in the Dons success, developing players, leading workouts, creating scouting reports, and breaking down film. Prior to that, he spent four years heavily involved with the program serving as a practice player as an undergrad.

While serving as volunteer assistant, the Dons finished in 3rd place in the WCC with a 10-7 league record, doubling their conference wins total from the 2019-2020 season.  A strong conference season helped USF make the post-season for the first time since the 2016 season, going to the WNIT Tournament.  They also won their first post-season game since the 1996 season, defeating Houston in the opening round.

Before coaching at USF, Brown has spent several years strengthening his player development skills through his coaching experiences at Nike Basketball Camps, Junior Warriors, Basketball Jones, and Top Flight Elite.  He has worked closely with players ranging from elementary school to college, focusing on skill development and player growth.

A native of San Jose, Calif., Brown attended Archbishop Mitty High School where he played on the 2015 varsity basketball team that took second place in the CIF Division II State Playoffs.

Brown graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in History with a minor in Spanish from USF in 2019 and a Master's Degree in Teaching from USF in 2020.
