Women's Hoops Prepares to Take On Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Colorado State

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif./FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Riding high off their five-game winning streak including their most recent win over San Diego State at the Chase Center, the USF Dons women's basketball team (7-2) is back to work this week with a home game as well as hitting the road to the Rocky Mountains. USF begins their week back home at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center this Wednesday, Dec. 7 against the Arkansas Pine-Bluff Golden Lions (1-7) at 5:00 p.m. and will follow that by heading east to take on the Colorado State Rams (5-3) at noon pacific time on Saturday, Dec. 10.

USF wrapped up a busy week away from the Hilltop as they won in resounding fashion against the CSUN Matadors with many different Dons contributing in the victory. Returning back to the City by the Bay on Sunday afternoon, USF's defense came to play throughout as they forced 25 SDSU turnovers and made some key late baskets to defeat a good Aztecs team to keep the streak alive.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • USF has played tremendous team basketball of late as they've won five games in a row dating back to their home victory over the Troy Trojans. A key reason for the team's success has been their defense as they're holding opposing teams to a WCC best 36.8% shooting from the field while also grabbing a conference-leading 43.2 rebounds per game and are second overall with 16.2 assists per game.
  • A key reason for the Dons recent success has been strong play from redshirt sophomore forward Debora dos Santos, who's averaging 10.4 PPG and six rebounds per game while also leading USF with nine blocks and steals. dos Santos has continued to shoot the ball at a very efficient clip currently ranking fourth in the conference at 52.2%.
  • The Dons currently boast three scorers currently averaging more than 10 points per game in Ioanna Krimili, Jasmine Gayles and dos Santos with Kennedy Dickie not far behind averaging 9.9 per game to go along with 8.8 boards. Another key piece of the team's offense has been their ability to get to the free throw line and cash in on their opportunities as they lead the WCC with 124 makes from the charity stripe to lead the conference and are second in total attempts.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN LIONS:
  • Arkansas-Pine Bluff arrives on the Hilltop Wednesday afternoon looking to right the ship of their season as they've lost seven of their first eight games with their only victory coming against Philander Smith on their home court. Their game at War Memorial will mark the second time this month that the Golden Lions will be in action in the Bay Area as they fell short against the Cal Golden Bears by a 84-51 final score in Berkeley.
  • Junior center Maori Davenport has been a key piece for the Golden Lions this season as she's her team's leading scorer at 9.7 PPG while shooting the ball at an efficient rate with a 57.9% shooting percentage, while also doing great work on the defensive glass with 9.8 boards per game competing for Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
  • USF will look to make things difficult on the Golden Lions' offense with their ability to generate turnovers as Arkansas-Pine Bluff has averaged 21.8 turnovers per game this season which would provide the Dons with chances for fast breaks and easy looks at the basket.
SCOUTING THE RAMS:
  • The Dons will have their hands full with a strong Colorado State team that was picked to finish third in a strong Mountain West conference and has posted a 5-3 record so far that already defeated fellow WCC foe BYU by 20 points on their home floor.
  • CSU has been led this season by a strong performance from senior guard McKenna Hofschild who has been a force on the offensive end of the floor with a team-high 19.8 PPG and has done a tremendous job of setting up her teammates for good looks with 8.0 assists per game this season.
  • USF will need to do their best to try and run the Rams off the three point line on Saturday afternoon, as Colorado State currently has three rotation players shooting 40% and above from beyond the arc this season.
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Both matchups with the Golden Lions and Rams will mark the first team each schools have faced off in each program's recent history.
