Trio of Dons Earn All-WCC Honors

SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference officially announced the regular season awards for the 2021-22 men's basketball season on Wednesday morning.

For San Francisco, guard Jamaree Bouyea and forward Yauhen Massalski were named to the First Team All-WCC while guard Khalil Shabazz earned a spot on the Second Team All-WCC. Notably, Bouyea was named to the conference's First Team for the second straight season while Shabazz was selected to the Second Team for the second consecutive year.

Gonzaga and Saint Mary's brought home all the major awards for the West Coast Conference 2021-22 men's basketball all-conference end of the year honors. All-American forward Drew Timme was named Player of the Year while freshman standout Chet Holmgren was named Defensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year for the top-ranked Zags. For No. 19 Saint Mary's, Randy Bennett earned Coach of the Year honors, and Tommy Kuhse was tabbed Sixth Man of the Year.

All five major individual awards – along with the All-West Coast Conference Teams and the All-Freshman Team – were voted on solely by the league's 10 head coaches.

Guiding the Dons to a 23-8 overall record during the regular season, which marks the most wins for USF since the program was reinstated in 1985-86, this trio of Dons led the charge on both sides of the ball as each of the three rank in the tops of multiple statistical categories within the WCC.

For Bouyea, the graduate student from Seaside dazzled all season long as the 2x WCC Player of the Week finished in the top five in the conference in total minutes (1, 107, first), minutes per game (35.7, first), made field goals (198, first), total points (528, second), total steals (54, third), points per game (17.0, fourth) and assists (126, fourth). Proving to be a workhorse for USF no matter the opponent, the versatile guard also finished in the top ten in total blocks (26, sixth), made three-pointers (67, sixth) and defensive rebounds (142, eighth). After his five years on the Hilltop, Bouyea will leave USF as one of the most accomplished athletes in program history as he is also the program's all-time wins leader (97 wins) and is first all-time in games played (157) in the green and gold. Additionally, Bouyea also sits second all-time in made three-pointers (242), third all-time in total steals (200) and total assists (413) and eighth all-time in total points (1,659).

Coming to the Hilltop last summer after four seasons at San Diego, Massalski dominated in his lone year with the Dons as the 6'9" forward racked up thirteen double-doubles while starting and playing in all 31 of USF's games. Overall, these thirteen double-doubles led the WCC and ranked eighteenth nationally. Showing his skills no matter the matchup, Massalski paced the WCC in offensive rebounds (105) and total rebounds (292) this season while also ranking second in rebounds per game (9.4), total blocks (70) and field goal percentage (60.0). Notably, he also finished in the top ten in total points (423, eighth) and points per 40 minutes (20.1, ninth).

Forming one of the most lethal backcourts in college basketball alongside Bouyea, Shabazz also enjoyed a stellar year on the hardwood as the redshirt senior finished second in the WCC in total steals (55) and steals per game (1.8) while also ranking fifth in made three-pointers (68). Shooting efficiently when on the floor, the Seattle native also finished seventh in free-throw percentage (84.6) and twelfth in made field goals (140). Set to graduate with his communications degree in May, Shabazz will also leave the Hilltop as one of the program's all-time greats as he finished his career at USF third all-time in three-pointers made (193) and three-pointers attempted (558) as well as fourth all-time in total steals (159).
