Dons Women's Basketball Readies for Rematch with Gonzaga

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Following their win over Santa Clara in the WCC Tournament quarterfinals, the USF Dons women's basketball team (17-14) is ready for the semifinals and their third crack at the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. from Orleans Arena. The Bulldogs won both of the previous meetings in the regular season by a combined five points as the Dons will look to even the score in the conference tournament.

USF used a complete team performance to advance to the semifinals as they knocked off the Broncos by a 72-63 final score. The Dons received a game-high 18 points from Ioanna Krimili as the conference's leading scorer knocked down 8-of-10 free throws and Claudia Langarita came off the bench and poured in 16 of her own to get USF into the next round of play. Monday's game will be the first game for the Bulldogs in Vegas as they earned the automatic double bye as the conference's two seed.

GREAT START IN VEGAS:
  • Shorthanded and playing their third game in as many days, Santa Clara gave USF everything they could handle from the Santa Clara Broncos in what ended up a 72-63 victory for USF.
  • The Dons used an uncharacteristic offensive attack scoring 44 points in the paint to make up for a quiet outside shooting night as they attacked the interior of SCU's defense throughout.
  • USF blitzed the Broncos to begin the game with a quick 10-0 run thanks to three quick baskets from Amalie Langer as the Dons took control of the contest early and never gave up the lead in route to the win.
  • In order to come out on top, the Dons will need to limit the number of second chances the Bulldogs are able to create as they're among the best rebounding and offensive rebounding teams in the conference and will be a point of emphasis for USF.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS:
  • It was another tremendous season in Spokane for the Bulldogs as they finished second in the WCC and just a half game behind BYU for the league regular season title.
  • Head coach Lisa Fortier isn't afraid to go deep into her rotation to have success with her squad as the Bulldogs often play many different lineup combinations and utilize the depth they posses.
  • USF will need to work hard to replicate their strong offensive game plan from the meeting at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center where the Dons scored 82 points against the best defense in the WCC.
  • The Dons will need to find a way to limit the WCC's sixth woman of the year in Yvonne Ejim who had two good performances in both of the previous meetings with USF.
