Men's Golf Selected As Tenth Seed For Columbus Regional

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The 61st ranked University of San Francisco men's golf team will return to the postseason for the second straight year as the Dons have earned the No. 10 seed in the Columbus Regional of the 2022 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Tournament.

"Our goal every year is to make the NCAA Regional…Doesn't matter how you get there, we are all 0-0 right now. I'm really excited to get selected, really didn't care where we go. We are excited to go to Columbus, it is a course that kind of fits our style with the tree line, thick rough, tough golf course, so we'll get to work this afternoon on our preparation and see what we can do… but really just excited to keep competing in May because that is what postseason golf is all about."

USF will be joined in the field by the following: No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 2 Georgia Tech, No. 3 Arkansas, No. 4 Clemson, No. 5 East Tennessee State, No. 6 Ohio State, No. 7 Duke, No. 8 Northwestern, No. 9 Florida Gulf Coast, No. 11 Kentucky, No. 12 Wright State and No. 13 Southern Illinois.

Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 16-18. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The top five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals. Regional play is considered preliminary rounds of the NCAA championships competition and all national championship policies apply. The NCAA Championships will be held May 27-June 1 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

"Postseason golf is all about how you grind out pars," said Kennedy. "We got to find a way to keep the ball in play, keep the ball below the hole, give ourselves birdie looks and keep it around par, because at the end of the day the top five teams go on. We don't need to win this tournament to have another opportunity to play…we need to figure out what we need to do to get in the top five and generally around par is what you need to do. The guys just need to figure out a way to play confident and play smart, execute our game plan once we get out there and let the chips fall where they may."

USF will be making their eighth overall appearance in the NCAA Regionals. Last season, the Dons earned their highest seed in program history when the green and gold were selected as the fifth seed for the Cle Elum Regional. Overall, USF shot 4-under-848 in the regional round to advance to the NCAA Championships. In Scottsdale, the Dons went on to finish 29th overall with a 56-over-896 as a team.

This year's roster boasts a wealth of experience as Soren Lind, Toby Briggs, Matthew Anderson and Christoffer Palsson all competed in the 2021 NCAA Tournament.

Recently, the Dons have also brought home some hardware as Lind was named to the All-WCC Men's Golf Team for the third year in a row while Briggs earned a spot on the All-WCC Team for the second time in his career. Guiding the Dons to seven top four finishes in their eleven tournaments this year, Briggs finished in the top twenty individually six times and in the top ten four times. Alongside his teammate, Lind impressed this season by tallying five finishes in the top fifteen and four in the top ten.
