Three Former Dons Ready to Compete at World Athletic Championships

EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of San Francisco Athletics family is proud to acknowledge that three of former track and field and cross country student-athletes are preparing to compete at the 2022 World Athletics Championships at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.

Three USF alumni- Lizzie Bird (England), Lea Meyer (Germany) and Maor Tiyouri (Israel)- will each be representing their home countries in Eugene next week. The event is scheduled to begin on Friday, July 15 and will wrap up the following Sunday on July 24. Bird and Meyer will each be competing in the 3,000m steeplechase while Tiyouri will be racing the marathon.

This year's championships are a once-in-a-lifetime global experience as the events are taking place in the United States for the first time. Taking center stage in the heart and home  of the sport at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., the best track and field athletes in the world are set to come together in a celebration of diversity, human potential and athletic achievement.

Bird and Meyer will be competing at 10:35 a.m. PT on Saturday July 16 while Tiyouri's race will take place at 6:15 a.m. PT on Monday July 18. Bird's personal best in the steeplechase is a time of 9:19.46 as she is currently ranked as the thirteenth best in her event in the world.

Meyer's best time in the same event is 9:25.61 as she is currently the twentieth ranked 3,000m steeplechase competitor in the world. Finally, Tiyouri's career best time in the marathon run is 2:29:04 as she is currently ranked as the 315th best in her event ahead of the World Championships.
