Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Dons Dominate Tritons in 4-1 Victory

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Hitting the road for the fourth time of the 2022 season, the USF Dons women's soccer (4-1-3) team was firing on all cylinders as they were able to come away with a dominant, 4-1 road victory over the UC San Diego Tritons (1-6-1) Wednesday night at Triton Soccer Stadium.

USF was able to score early as junior Marissa Vasquez netted a new career-high fifth goal to get the scoring started, while freshman Lindsey Chau contributed an assist and a goal as the Dons controlled the first half before tacking on two more goals in the second half on their way to the victory.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • The Dons were able to get on the board first at the 19 minute mark as Marissa Vasquez was able to score her team-high fifth goal of the season off a great feed from Chau that gave USF the early lead.
  • Chau wasn't finished making her mark on Wednesday night's game as she netted her third goal of the season to give USF the 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
  • UC San Diego was able to answer shortly into the second half as they cut USF's lead in half to make it 2-1 at the 48 minute mark of the match.
  • The second half marked a couple of firsts for the Dons as sophomore defender Allison Kamansky used some fancy footwork to find the back of the net at the top corner using her left foot as the Dons gained some breathing room with the 3-1 lead.
  • Rounding out the scoring for the night, USF junior Ashley Jordan came off the bench and netted her first career collegiate goal at the 83 minute mark as the Dons went on to claim the 4-1 victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Vasquez continued her brilliance as a Don by setting a new career-high with her fifth goal of the season as she's bested her total from the 2021 season where she led USF with four last year.
  • Chau continued her stellar start to her collegiate career as she picked up her third goal of the year as she is now second on the Dons with seven points this season.
  • Kamansky and Jordan each got on the board with their first goals of the season in the second half which now accounts for eight USF players having scored at least one goal this year.

CATCHING UP WITH COACH NIJJAR:
"I thought we did well and we talked about how they would defend against us and how they would be really lively on the counter attack. They're a really good team they prepare well and work hard and we have to come out and match their effort and their work ethic and almost elevate above that. I'm proud of our girls especially in the first half and I'm really proud of how we responded and closed out the night."

UP NEXT:
The Dons will now venture north east to face off with the Cal State Fullerton Titans (3-2-3) on their home pitch at 5:00 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 17. USF last faced off with Cal State Fullerton during the 2019 season on the Hilltop as the match ended in a 3-all draw.
