SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Playing in their first true night game of the season, the University of San Francisco men's team fought a full 90 minutes in an almost evenly matched battle as the Dons (3-0-2) remained undefeated on the year by tying Seattle U (1-2-1), 1-1, at Negoesco Stadium on Thursday night.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Exchanging shots to open the contest, Andri Jonasson fired the first attempt for USF at 4:49 in the first half, but was unable to put it past the keeper.
- In the minutes to follow, the Dons continued to apply pressure offensively, which then resulted in USF getting on the board to take an early 1-0 lead. On the play, Nathan Simeon found the cutting Rodrigo Bueno on the attack before Bueno was able to dance through the Redhawk defense to deliver his first goal of the season and give the Dons the advantage in the 26th minute.
- Holding off Seattle U through the remainder of the first 45 minutes, USF maintained their one goal lead heading into the halftime break.
- Despite shots from Simeon and Dominic Valdivia to begin the second half, the Redhawks were able to draw even, 1-1, on a goal from Jesse Ortiz in the 76th minute.
- Down the stretch, Bueno, Valdivia and Zane Alafranji all registered their own attempts on goal, but could not find the go-ahead strike to put the Dons back in front.
- After a full 90 minutes, USF and Seattle U remained knotted at 1-1 all. For San Francisco, this result marked their second tie of the season as the Dons remain unbeaten with a 3-0-2 record.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Continuing his strong start to the 2022 campaign, Simeon picked up his team-leading fourth assist on Thursday night, which now ties him for the conference lead with Gurman Sangha of Portland.
- In the cage, goalkeeper Eric Waltz enjoyed another stellar night as he tied his season-high with five saves against the Redhawks.
- As a team, USF outshot Seattle U, 13-11, marking the fifth straight match to open the year in which the Dons have outshot their opponent. Additionally, USF shot .538 as a team on goal tonight, with seven of their 13 shots coming on target. Notably, this also marked their highest single-game shot on goal percentage as a team so far this season.
