SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Suiting up in the South Bay, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team (7-2-5, 1-1-2 WCC) picked up a point on Wednesday night as the Dons tied with conference leader Santa Clara (5-6-3, 3-0-1 WCC), 0-0, in a scoreless draw at Stevens Stadium.
Â
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- With defense ruling the match early one, San Francisco's first shot of the night came at 21:01 as Constantinos Michaelides aimed to sneak one past the opposing keeper, but Santa Clara goalie Jack Stoecker denied the attempt to keep the game scoreless.
- Just a few minutes later, Michaelides tallied his second shot of the night, but missed wide right of the goal at 24:10.
- At the half, the match remained at 0-0 as both USF and SCU would record only two shots each through the first 45 minutes of play.
- Sticking to their gameplan, the green and gold came out on the attack in the second half as the Dons would go on to outshot the Broncos 8-3 in the second period.
- Although San Francisco continued to have its chances, Santa Clara answered by defending their home pitch. Matching the Broncos, the Dons would also keep off SCU the scoreboard down the stretch as Eric Waltz saved their lone shot on target at 81:16.
- Following the same pattern to close out the contest, neither side broke through before the final horn sounded as San Francisco and Santa Clara went on to finish in a scoreless draw.
Â
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Leading the match with three total shots, Olivier Sylvain tallied three or more shots for the fourth time in the last five matches and the seventh time overall this season.
- Off the bench, Max Mair played a season-high 28 minutes for the green and gold as he has now registered at least one shot in all three matches he has appeared in this fall.
- Defensively, the five shots by the Broncos ties for the second-lowest shot total by a USF opponent this season.
