SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Led by Jacob Cann's All-Region selection, the University of San Francisco men's and women's cross country teams competed in the NCAA West Regional Friday morning at the Arcade Creek Cross Country Course at Haggin Oaks Golf Course.
 
The men's program earned a 14th-place team finish with 419 points, while the women grabbed 15th with 474 points. Stanford earned a sweep, earning the top spot on both the men's and women's sides.
 
Yasmine Abbes and Nátalie Hluší again led the Dons on the women's side, pacing the team throughout the 6,000-meter race. Abbes earned a 50th-place finish out of 253 competitors with a time of 20:37.9, her second-fastest 6k, while Hlusi finished 78th with a time of 20:53.0.
 
Grace Copeland (98th), Julia Morales (114th), and Christine Albrecht (138th) completed the team scoring for the Dons.
 
In the men's 10,000 meters, Cann grabbed a 16th-place finish, the highest placement in the regional since Jack Rowe finished fifth in 2018. Cann, competing in his first-career 10k, finished the race with a time of 29:40.0, just 44.4 seconds off the pace for first, and earned All-Region recognition.
 
Ed Buck excelled in the 10k, crossing the finish line in 31st place with a time of 29:54.0. Buck, competing in his final race with the team, nearly surpassed his previous best in the event set last season at the NCAA West Regional in University Place, Wash., falling just 25.8 seconds short.
