Dons, Lions Battle Until Final Whistle in Draw

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Battling until the final whistle, the University of San Francisco women's soccer team (0-4-1) returned to the Hilltop on Sunday afternoon and drew their first tie of the season in a 0-0 outing against the Columbia Lions (2-1-1) at Negoesco Stadium.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • The Dons started their offensive attack quickly with a shot on goal in the fourth minute by Allison Kamansky that was saved by Columbia goalkeeper Paige Nurkin.
  • Just a few minutes later, the Lions began firing away in the 12th minute of the match with a shot on goal by forward Madi Pilla, which was denied by Kira Ybarra. Shortly thereafter, Columbia followed with a shot off target 38 seconds later by midfielder Grace Hurren.
  • Moving along, Marissa Vasquez got into the mix with a shot off-target in the 26th minute. Following her shot, Kaitlyn Sasaduesz recorded her first shot of the game at the 31:02 mark.
  • After 45 minutes of action, the Dons and Lions weren't able to get on the board as the two teams headed into the halftime break in a scoreless tie.
  • Out of the break, Marissa Vasquez got off to a fast start in the second half with shots on target in the 49th and 55th minute.
  • As the match played on, the Dons and Lions continued to fire, but neither team was able to find into the back of the net.
  • Aiming for one last opportunity, Isabella Ayau fired USF's final attempt to score in the 87th minute but was ultimately off target as the game remained scoreless through the final whistle, resulting in the first tie of the season for both teams.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Marissa Vasquez recorded a game-high in shots and tied her season-high of total shots with four on Sunday, including two of which were on target.
  • In just her fourth collegiate match, Natalie Drotzmann played all 90 minutes of action for the first time this season.
  • The green and gold totaled more saves and corner kicks than Columbia throughout Sunday's match with five saves to Columbia's four and nine corner kicks to the Lions' four.
