MALIBU, Calif. – The University of San Francisco volleyball team (8-8, 2-2) dropped a West Coast Conference decision Saturday afternoon, falling at Pepperdine (8-6, 4-0), 3-0, at Firestone Fieldhouse.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • The Dons fell behind earlier in the first set when the Waves recorded seven of the first nine points to take a 7-2 lead.
  • The Dons, led by Lana Kutakhina, recovered quickly and used a 9-4 run to tie the frame at 11. Kutakhina tallied three kills during the run, while Lindsay Oldendorf, Aylen Ayub, and Hayden Goodman helped pace the team offensively.
  • Despite the Dons holding a narrow two-point advantage midway through the set, 17-15, the Waves tallied five straight points and then won five of the following nine points to secure the first set, 25-21.
  • The Waves eased through the second set, winning 17 of the first 24 points and held a 10-point lead, 17-7. A valiant effort from the Dons, led by Goodman and Astrid Puig's two kills, cut the deficit to eight, 18-10. A 7-4 run to end the set gave the Waves a 25-14 win and an advantage in the match.
  • In the third set, the Dons kept the frame close, only trailing by one, 13-12, after a Maria Petkova service ace midway through.
  • The Waves, however, pulled away and recorded a 10-2 run to go up 23-14, solidifying the set. Despite cutting the deficit to six, 24-18, the Waves scored the final point, winning the set and completing the match sweep.
