Jonathan Mogbo Named to Lou Henson Award Mid-Season Watch List

BOSTON, Ma. - San Francisco's Jonathan Mogbo was recently selected as one of forty student-athletes to the 2023-24 Lou Henson Award Mid-Season Watch List on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

The award, which is presented annually to the top mid-major player in Division I college basketball, honors the former Illinois and New Mexico State head coach who won 775 games in 41 seasons.

Players on teams from the following conferences are eligible for the award: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, Western Athletic, and West Coast.

The recipient of the annual award is determined by a 10-member voting committee, which consists of current and former head coaches, as well as two senior staff members of collegeinsider.com. The 2024 award will be announced in Phoenix, AZ, site of the men's Division I Basketball Championship.

For Mogbo, the 6'10" forward has flourished since arriving on the Hilltop this past offseason. Playing and starting in all 17 of San Francisco's games so far this season, Mogbo is currently the only player in the WCC averaging a double-double. Overall, he is currently first in the conference in rebounding (10.6 rebounds per game), steals (1.9 per game), fourth in blocked shots (1.0), fifth in scoring (15.0 points per game) and eighth in assists (3.2 per game).

Nationally, Mogbo currently ranks second with a 69.18 field goal percentage behind only Vladislav Goldin of Florida Atlantic (71.20) while also sitting fourth in the country in total rebounds (180), seventh in rebounds per game (10.6) and tied for twelfth in double doubles (8). Additionally, he ranks among the nation's elite as he is currently third in Division I in player efficiency rating (PER) at 35.6, only behind Zach Edey of Purdue (36.4) and Donovan Clingan of UConn (36.3).

Mogbo is also responsible for the two highest rebounding totals by a WCC player this season as he has pulled down 18 rebounds twice in a game this year - Nov. 22 vs. Purdue Fort-Wayne and Jan. 4 at Pacific. Overall, he has pulled down double-digit rebounds in 9 of his 17 games so far this season.
