Core Nets First Career Goal as Dons Draw Pilots

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Suiting up on a sunny afternoon, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team completed another hard-fought battle on Sunday as the Dons and Portland finished in 1-1 draw at Negoesco Stadium.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Getting the offense started for the Dons, Brayden Beason logged San Francisco's first shot on goal at 8:33, but the freshman was denied early on from opposing goalkeeper Kash Oladapo. Just over five minutes later, Beason would tally another shot on frame at 13:58, but was also unlucky to start.
  • As the action moved along, Alex Solomis and Isaiah Easley each recorded shots of their own, but Portland got on the scoreboard first at 35:44 when Oliver Jeppe used his left foot to find Nicholar Dunbar near the box, who then put it home to put the Pilots up 1-0.
  • Following one more attempt from Junhwan Park at 43:35, UP maintained their one goal lead at the halftime break.
  • Coming out of the locker room, the green and gold came out firing as Park, TJ Knight and Joe Core all fired shots. Delivering to even the match, Gabriel Bracken Serra placed a perfect pass into the box off of a corner at 55:27, where Core then used his head to push the equalizer past Oladapo and knot the score at 1-1. Notably, the strike marked Core's first career goal at the collegiate level.
  • Providing energy off the bench, Mason Dougherty went on to log five shots in the second half alone, but unfortunately was not able to find the back of the cage. Additionally, Bracken Serra, Park and Easley continued to apply pressure with more shots against Portland.
  • Down the stretch, San Francisco locked in defensively as the Dons did not allow a shot in the final 23:54 of regulation. Despite one final attempt from Dougherty at 89:13, the two teams finished in a hard-fought 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • As a team, San Francisco finished with 24 total shots, their second most in a match this season (25 at Seattle U on Sept. 6). Notably, this performance also marks the ninth time in eleven games in which the green and gold have outshot their opponents.
  • Individually, Park paced the green and gold with a match-high six shots, which also marks a new career-high for the freshman. Additionally, Dougherty's five shots against the Pilots also marks a new career-high.
  • Overall, seven different Dons recorded at least two shots on Sunday: Park (6), Dougherty (5), Easley, Beason (3), Core (2), Bracken Serra (2) and Solomis (2).
POSTGAME WITH THE DONS: UP NEXT:
San Francisco will remain home on the Hilltop as the Dons will welcome in Bay Area rival Stanford this Thursday, Oct. 17 for a 7:00 pm matchup at Negoesco Stadium. Live streaming and live statistics are available via the team's schedule page.
