San Francisco Travels to Take on San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco women's basketball team (2-1) prepares to maintain its two-game winning streak when it travels to take on San Diego State (3-0) at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, at Viejas Arena.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • San Francisco bounced back following its season-opening loss at Colorado State, earning back-to-back wins, capped with a narrow 62-56 triumph over Portland State on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
  • Debora dos Santos led the team in scoring against the Vikings, recording a game-high 17 points while tying Freja Werth in rebounding with nine. Scoring in double figures for the second straight game, dos Santos continues to lead the Dons offensively early in the season, averaging 13.0 points per game on 50 percent shooting.
  • Elle Papahronis reached double figures in her second consecutive game, totaling 12 points off the bench against the Vikings while leading the team with five made free throws. Notably, Papahronis connected on a crucial three-pointer to put the Dons ahead 55-54 late in the game, paving the way for San Francisco to finish on top.
  • Recording her best game this season, Sol Castro also contributed off the bench, adding 13 points on a stellar 85.7 percent (six-for-seven) shooting in 15 minutes.
  • The team showcased a standout defensive performance against UC Santa Barbara last Saturday, holding the Gauchos to just 20.8 percent (11-for-53) shooting and scoring 23 points off 14 forced turnovers. The Dons' defense remained strong against Portland State, limiting the Vikings to 32.8 percent shooting (21-for-64) to secure the win.
SCOUTING THE AZTECS:
  • San Diego State heads into the weekend undefeated after earning a 62-51 victory over Idaho State on Monday, Nov. 11. Adryana Quezada led the Aztecs with 13 points, including seven in the fourth quarter. Meghan Fiso contributed 11 points, knocking down three three-pointers.
  • The Aztecs also had four players reach double figures in their overtime win against UC Davis, with Veronica Sheffy leading the way with 17 points. Cali Clark added 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to record her first double-double as an Aztec. Erin Houpt chipped in 12 points, while Adryana Quezada contributed 11 points to help propel the team to victory.
  • Head Coach Stacie Terry-Hutson enters her 12th season at San Diego State, having guided the Aztecs to 45 wins over the past two years. San Diego State won 22 games in the 2023-24 season, advancing to the Mountain West Championship before falling to UNLV 66-49 in Las Vegas.
  • San Diego State remains undefeated to start the season, marking the first time the Aztecs have started 3-0 since 2017-18. 
SERIES HISTORY:
San Francisco has won two of their last three meetings against San Diego State. Their most recent victory came on December 4, 2022, with the Dons outscoring the Aztecs 65-56 at Chase Center.
