Cougars Top Dons at Home

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco women's soccer team (5-9-2, 1-5-2 WCC) dropped its final home game of the season, falling to Washington State (6-5-6, 3-23 WCC) 1-0 Saturday evening at Negoesco Stadium on senior night.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Washington State opened the scoring 46 seconds into the first half, scoring the deciding goal to take an early 1-0 lead.
  • Following a throw-in for the Cougars in the Dons' defensive third, Raniyah Burton dribbled to the end line, sending a centering pass to Kendall Campbell, who buried the shot past goaltender Kira Ybarra to give the Cougars the early advantage.
  • San Francisco accumulated numerous scoring chances in the following minutes of the first half, as Jackie Koerwitz put a shot on goal at 4:01, while Gabby Rizzo's right-footed shot connected on the outside of the post at 6:37.
  • The Dons registered two more shots in the opening 45 minutes as Emmie Paulson and Kiana Faucette guided the team's efforts to find the equalizer.
  • San Francisco continued to battle throughout the second half, totaling seven shots, with two apiece coming from Ellie Weissenberg and Lindsay Chau.
  • The Dons had an opportunity in the 79th minute when Chau's free kick from just outside the 18-yard box sailed wide of the far post.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Chau led the team in total shots, accumulating four in 60 minutes of action, while Weissenberg recorded two, including a shot on goal.
  • In 90 minutes in goal, Ybarra, in her final home game at Negoesco Stadium, allowed just one goal and picked up two saves.
