CORVALLIS, Ore. - Dueling on a Sunday afternoon, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team (5-6-4, 3-1-2 WCC) struck first on the road in Corvallis, but the Dons finished in a hard-fought draw, 1-1, against Oregon State (9-3-3, 5-1-1 WCC) at Paul Lorenz Field.
Â
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Although Oregon State would record the first three shots of the afternoon, San Francisco responded right back to begin the contest as Gabriel Bracken Serra and David Raphael each fired shots in the opening minutes.
- Following a foul in the box at 17:30, Bracken Serra lined up for a penalty kick opportunity. First, the Berkeley native was denied by opposing goalkeeper Gandhi Cruz, but the ball then ricocheted back to Bracken Serra off the save as the midfielder headed the ball into the corner of the cage to put San Francisco up 1-0.
- As the half continued, the Beavers pressed offensively, but the green and gold held steady on defense through the first 45 minutes of play. At the halftime break, San Francisco maintained their one-goal lead.
- Moving into the second half, TJ Knight and Isaiah Easley fired shots on goal jus ten seconds apart, but neither were able to push one past the keeper to double the advantage.
- After three more shots from Oregon State, Pere Belmonte found Sergi Solans for a goal at 71:20 as the Beavers leveled the match at 1-1.
- Down the stretch, Easley remained a focal point of the offense for the Dons as he fired more shots on frame at 75:09 and 78:48.
- With both sides unable to find the game-winning strike in the closing moments, San Francisco and Oregon State finished in a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Leading the attack offensively, Easley tallied a team-high four shots while also tying Bracken Serra with a match-high three shots on goal.
- For Bracken Serra, the performance marked the sixth time in the past seven games the midfielder has recorded three or more shots. Overall, he is now tied with Brayden Beason for the team-lead in goals with four on the season.
- In goal, Eric Waltz recorded four or more saves for the fourth time this season and the second time in the past three games.Â
