Dons Finish Fifth at MPSF Championships

SPOKANE, Wash. – Totaling the most points in program history with 55, the University of San Francisco earned a fifth-place team finish at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championships on Sunday, Feb. 25, and Monday, Feb. 26, at The Podium, Powered by STCU.
 
Beginning on Saturday, Sophia Priester-Veasley shined in the 60-meter dash preliminaries, setting a program record with a time of 7.67 seconds, finishing in 14th place. Tatumn LaChapelle also competed in the event as she set a new personal best at 7.98 while earning a 27th-place finish.
 
Imani Wyatt earned a new personal indoor best in the 200 meters, finishing with a time of 25.99 seconds. Wyatt surpassed her previous best of 26.87 set during the 2022 season at the Michigan Invitational on January 22.
 
In the 5,000 meters, Natalie Hlusi picked up the Dons' first points of the weekend as she earned a third-place finish. Coming within 16 seconds of breaking her personal best in the event, Hlusi crossed the finish line, with a time of 9:42.94.
 
Julia Morales, Olivia Alexandre, Kamilla Vanadzina, and Grace Copeland brought home the top podium spot in the distance medley. The team outpaced second-place UC Irvine by over 11 seconds, finishing at 11:36.13.
 
In Monday's portion of the meet, the Dons kickstarted a successful day with Hannah Kehoe grabbing third place in the one-mile run. Kehoe, who earned six points for the green and gold, ran a tactical race and finished in the finals with a time of 4:54.60. Petra Helebrantova and Copeland also competed in the event, finishing in fourth and eighth place, respectively.
 
Alexandre ran a solid 800 meters, finishing in second at 2:08.94. Morales also earned a top-five finish, taking fourth at 2:13.57.
 
Hlusi continued her success in the long-distance races, picking up another third-place finish, this time in the 3,000 meters.
 
Lilly Gerhard showed out in the shot put, grabbing fourth with a final throw of 13.88 meters.
 
San Francisco finished the meet with the 4x4 meter relay, with Wyatt, LaChapelle, Morales, and Alexandre competing for the Dons. The group finished in sixth place and earned three points toward their overall score.
