SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Completing the four-game sweep, the University of San Francisco baseball team (11-5) earned a dominating 16-1 victory over Saint Peter's (4-11) Sunday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Saint Peter's took its first lead of the series, plating a run in the top half of the opening frame to take an early 1-0 lead.
- San Francisco responded with two runs in the bottom half of the first to take its first lead. Kody Watanabe continued his hitting streak as he led off the frame with a double through the left side of the infield. Back-to-back hits from Logan Leax and Zack Ramppen plated Watanabe to tie the game at one. Patrick Keighran later doubled down the left-field line, scoring Ramppen as the Dons gained a 2-1 advantage.
- The Dons built on their lead in the second inning when TJ Rogers belted a two-run home run, the first long ball of his career, over the left-field wall to extend the lead to 4-1.
- The Dons recorded their second home run of the contest in the fourth, a two-run shot off the bat of Michael Campagna, scoring Ramppen, to push the lead to 6-1.
- Highlighted by another two-run home run from Rogers, the green and gold scored three runs and led 9-1 after five full. AJ Guiliana led off the inning with a hit-by-pitch and quickly made his way around the basepath, advancing to second on a balk from Yash Jain, stealing third, and then scoring the Dons' seventh run on a throwing error from the catcher Ashby Vining.
- After Logan Azem reached on a five-pitch walk, Rogers followed with a shot over the left-field wall to give the Dons a 9-1 lead.
- In the bottom half of the sixth, San Francisco scored seven runs, tying the most in a single inning so far this season, solidifying the 16-1 victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Three players totaled three hits throughout the contest, with Rogers going three-for-four at the plate while totaling five RBI and scoring three runs. Rogers also added two home runs for his first-ever multi-homer game.
- Watanabe also recorded three hits in the win over the Peacocks as he went three-for-five with two doubles and two RBI. Watanabe totaled 10 hits throughout the four-game series, boosting his team-leading batting average to .365.
- In three at-bats, Ramppen also posted three hits while recording an RBI and plating two runs.
- As a team, San Francisco recorded a .459 batting average, with 10 players totaling at least one base hit.
- Earning the starting nod for the fourth time this season, Joe Soberon allowed just one earned run while tallying a season-high nine strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
- Austin Cupic and Quentin Pohorski finished the final two innings, combining for just one hit and two walks.
